From Mr. Brown's column on InSing.com
Then there are the kids. Kids who march, kids who dance and sing, kids who perform feats of wushu. You can say, hey the army folks who participate in NDP kena arrow one lah, they have no choice what. Well, many of these kids volunteer.
I have seen them gathering backstage, sweating in very uncomfortable costumes, waiting their turn to run onto the stage for those few minutes. I have seen them practise in the harsh and hot parade ground of some out of the way military camp during component rehearsals. I have seen them stand in the sun just like every soldier marching in the parade segment, willing themselves not to faint from heat exhaustion (and getting more acclimatized to the heat with each rehearsal).
And I never heard the kids complain. Not even about the endless meals of the same fried chicken which shall remain unnamed (then again, the kids probably consider that a treat).
But most of all, I miss the kids.
